BMW's 2012 Mountainbike Enduro boasts the most changes from the 2011 model

BMW has rolled out its 2012 line of bikes. With a new component here and a new paint job there, the collection provides largely cosmetic differences to last year’s models with the Mountainbike Enduro appearing to have received the most attention.  Read More

Audi's new R18 e-tron quattro demonstrates the extraordinary boldness of the Audi company ...

Audi's newly revealed R18 e-tron quattro race car is designed to win the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hour Race. Whatsmore, the turbodiesel, electric flywheel hybrid, all-wheel drive prototype will ensure the 2012 race will be a battle of the hybrids (against Toyota's new TS030 ultracapacitor hybrid race car), and a fascinating study of new technologies under race conditions. The car uses electric motors to add 75 kW (102 bhp) of power to each front wheel, and a 375 kW (510 bhp) V6 TDI engine powers the rear wheels. The Williams Hybrid Power electric flywheel hybrid captures energy similarly to the unit Porsche used to such great effect in its GT3 R Hybrid last year with the rear axle powered conventionally, and the front wheels by electric motors. Audi calls it "the electrification of the drive" and it will be a story worth following as battle begins on the racetrack.  Read More

The BMW Concept M135i takes the 1 Series to performance level

BMW puts a lot of stock into its 1 Series motor cars. As its entry level line, the 1 Series was meant to both eradicate the memory of the failed BMW Compact and to lead first-time BMW owners toward more prestigious performance models, such as the M class. The BMW Concept M135i, which is slated to be put before the public at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show on March 7, 2012, is BMW’s latest attempt to create a hot hatchback that combines and expands on both the 1 Series and the M lines.  Read More

'The class-conscious brand custodians at Mini would be concerned about the Mini's brand va...

Mini will finally add a commercial variant of its iconic design at the Geneva Motor Show, creating an interesting new niche for the growing premium small car segment. Though the Clubman-based Clubvan is only a concept, we expect the unique blend of upmarket panache, go-kart handling and delivery van load-carrying capacity to fulfill pent-up demand for a premium stylish commercial vehicle and propel the concept into production. Remarkably this vehicle has a highly successful predecessor. The Morris Mini Van was replaced in the Morris commercial fleet in 1982 after half a million vehicles - when production ceased in 2000, the van accounted for nearly 10% of all Mini sales.  Read More

The top five biggest lemons in history - to this point.

When the likes of Jaguar, Porsche, Ford, GM, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Renault and Chrysler introduce a new model series, it is equally or more reliable than the model it replaces. Right? Wrong! New information has been released this week which indicates all of the above companies have replaced major models with less reliable models in the last decade - the worst three examples were 60%, 54% and 40% more likely to break down than their predecessor.  Read More

The BMW X6 'Sports Activity Coupe' has received its first update after the model's 2008 la...

BMW launched its X6 in 2008 dubbing it "the world's first ever Sports Activity Coupé." The SAC moniker was adopted because the vehicle combined the high ground clearance and all-wheel drive attributes of an SUV, with the body styling of a coupé. Despite mixed reviews regarding its styling upon launch, BMW says the vehicle has since racked up sales of over 150,000. Now the German automaker has announced it is giving the X6 a facelift - although you'll have to look pretty closely to pick the changes.  Read More

Peterhansel and his MINI ALL4 Racing

New names dominated the Dakar Rally from start-to-finish this year - MINI being the most obvious with a 1-2, but also Iveco broke the Eastern Block stranglehold on the truck section. Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel won his tenth Dakar (six on motorcycles, four in cars) ahead of MINI teammate Nani Roma (a prior motorcycle winner). MINI's new owner BMW must be delighted to add the world's toughest race to its illustrious heritage, even if that MINI looks a tad bigger than your average Countryman.  Read More

Lazareth's Wazuma V8F features a 3.0L Ferrari V8 engine, a handlebar-controlled BMW gearbo...

In my part of the world, quad bikes (or ATVs) are everywhere. They're great for dropping in and out of the fields to check the vines, as well as hitting the road or dirt track for a bit of well-earned fun. Although there are quite powerful examples, for the most part quads are unlikely to generate the same kind of drool as, say, a Ducati superbike. That's certainly not true of Lazareth's Wazuma V8F - which is built around a 250 horsepower Ferrari 3 liter V8 engine, features a BMW gearbox and sports customized Brembo braking and Momo rims. As you've probably already worked out, though, this unique beast of a quad doesn't come cheap.  Read More
