Talking alarm clock shows kids when it's OK to get out of bed

We’ve seen alarm clocks that make you work, think and even run in the wee hours, but here's one that actually aims to ease early morning frustration. Teach Me Time! is a talking alarm clock that's not only designed to teach children to tell the time - it can also be programmed to give them a "green light" when it's OK to get out of bed – giving parents some much needed shut-eye.  Read More

Drink No More will sound an alarm and flash a warning signal when your pet approaches the ...

Household pets like to drink water from the toilet because it is cool and readily available. However, it's also full of bacteria and toilet cleaner residue, both of which can make your pet ill. And you don’t really want them near your face when you know where their head has just been! Drink No More is an alarm that is on alert when the toilet lid is up and sounds warning beeps when a pet or person approaches the bowl.  Read More

The Sony ICF-CL75iP - great looks and functionality

Alarm clocks (uncool), digital photo frames (ho-hum), and iPod/iPhone docks (seen ‘em all). Three pretty bland objects, right? But give them to Sony and what you get back is one smooth-looking piece of equipment. The Sony ICF-CL75iP has beautifully melded three boring CE products to deliver an item that would easily grace any horizontal surface at home or at the office.  Read More

Polished aluminum finish, tilt orientation sensor and touch sensitive backlight operation ...

Inspired by Mozart's famous Opera, the new Beotime alarm clock will, according to its creator Bang & Olufsen, turn the chore of waking up in the morning into an "extraordinary experience". As well as finding all the usual functionality of a standard alarm clock onboard, the elegant flute-like tube of aluminum can help you control all of your (compatible) audio/video gadgetry and even your room lights. As the suggested price tag of USD$375 indicates, this is no run-of-the-mill alarm clock.  Read More

The iTalkÔ voice controlled clock from Neutrano

If you're the type of individual who is too dead-dog tired to reach over to turn off the alarm, just couldn't be stuffed or who might enjoy the companionship – or convenience – of talking to an obedient alarm clock, then the iTalk from Neutrano may be what you're looking for. The iTalk is among the first household appliances to use TimeSet Voice technology that Neutrano claims can understand any English-speaking voice – although we're not sure how well it understands the morning slur after that big night out.  Read More

Size comparison: Silhouette Smoke alarm v conventional model

May 6, 2008 Smoke alarms are an absolutely essential household item, and although we've seen some clever innovations in recent years including units that talk, models that clip onto light fittings and even plans for smell based alarms to aid those with hearing impairments, most designs remain a bit of an eyesore when it comes to complementing modern decor. The Silhouette™ by Kidde is looking to change this impression by virtue of its sleek, low-profile form that aims to better blend in with its surroundings.  Read More

The Puzzle Alarm Clock

April 15, 2008 A similar concept to "Clocky" the alarm clock that runs-away, the Puzzle Alarm Clock ejects three different shaped puzzle pieces when it goes off in the morning and the only way to stop the sound is to complete the puzzle. It's a frustrating but effective way to make sure you never miss an important morning meeting again.  Read More

Kalashnikov Burglar Alarm

April 14, 2008 The Kalashnikov has been the common man’s rifle for sixty years and has been responsible for more misery and wasted humanity than any other invention of history. Now an ingenious Afghan inventor, Hanif Molavizadeh, has built one into a burglar alarm - a highly effective, seat-of-the-pants mash-up that includes a cell and speaker phone, sensors, and armed response. Trigger the alarm by waving a hand outside the window of Molavizadeh's one-room home and the alarm sounds. It also calls Molavizadeh's cell phone so he can have a conversation with the would-be burglar via a speakerphone in the alarm, and if he doesn’t like the answers he gets, he can fire the Kalashnikov remotely. He’s working on an equally punitive anti-theft system for his car.  Read More
