There are various reasons why people might want to mount bikes on their walls, whether its for maintenance, to showcase a treasured racer or purely to save space. US-based inventor Jurgen Beneke aims to cater to all types with Shelfie.

Measuring 14 x 19 x 11.5 in (35.6 x 48.3 x 29.2 cm), Shelfie is a bike shelf specially contoured to let the seat take the weight and preserve your paintwork and cables in the process. Beneke says the angle and curve of the shelf have been tested to suit any make or model, even those without a top tube. This could prove a point of difference for Shelfie and make it particularly useful for the purposes of a workshop or people with a number of different bikes.

The storage compartment measures 9.25 in (23.5 cm) across, with enough space for trophies, accessories or even the largest of helmets. A vinyl protector sheet that comes included with Shelfie and is available in red, blue, orange, purple, silver or green can be used to prevent scuffs and marks where the bike rests on the unit.

Beneke used plywood to handcraft the prototypes for Shelfie, but has now turned to Kickstarter to raise funds for an injection molded plastic version and to get the shelf into mass production. A pledge of US$125 will put you in line for one of your own, with Beneke planning to ship in October 2014 if the funding goal is reached.

You can hear from Beneke in his video pitch below.

Creative design but the wall will definitely need a backing to keep the scuffing to a minimum.
