Having a smartphone in your pocket is like carrying a mobile office around, saving time and energy by having everything you need in one pocket-friendly device. Where printing is concerned, however, it can be fiddly and annoying to get your photos, documents and emails transferred to paper for sharing or storage. Samsung has announced a new range of wireless color laser printers that feature near field communication (NFC) technology to allow smartphone users to print off what they need just by tapping an Xpress C410W series printer.

Samsung has been producing Wi-Fi-enabled color laser printers for a while now, but the three new Xpress printers are touted as the first in the industry to sport NFC. After launching the company's Mobile Print App, users just need to tap the smartphone on the printer to wirelessly send photos, documents, emails or browser content to the print queue.

Designed with home office users in mind, all three are capable of black and white printing up to 18 pages per minute, or four pages per minute in color. If your phone isn't NFC-capable or doesn't run the app, the Xpress series printers all support Google Cloud Print for printing over the web, and promise a three step Windows/Mac/Linux computer installation that doesn't require a physical USB connection between devices.

The desk-friendly C410W color laser printer features a 300 MHz processor and 32 MB of included memory, and offers a print resolution of up to 2,400 x 600 dpi. Its paper draw can take up to 150 sheets at a time, and the output bin can hold 50 before requiring the user to make some room for more prints.

The other two models are both multi-function color laser printers. In addition to printing, the C460W can copy and scan documents. The TWAIN/WIA scanner has an optical resolution of up to 600 x 600 dpi, which can be ramped up to 4,800 x 4,800 dpi with some digital help. This model sports dual processors, the main one running at 533 MHz and a secondary one at 150 MHz, and 128 MB of built-in memory. A two-line LCD keeps you posted on what the printer is up to.

The C460FW multi-function color laser printer boasts the same specs as the C460W, but comes with the addition of fax capabilities. It can send 300 x 300 dpi resolution black and white faxes via its included modem at transmission speeds of up to 33.6 Kbps, but can also send out color faxes at 200 x 200 dpi. Users can sync the printer with contacts on a smartphone to save a little time in typing in telephone numbers.

The Xpress C410W series printers are earmarked for a June release in Korea, but there's no news yet on US pricing or availability.
