Rosetta Stone: taking language learning to the public

I tried the Japanese Rosetta Stone, and I was lost, lost, lost. My brain needs a little bit more to work with than a mish-mash of VERY unusual phonemes, and an even stranger picture. What do the words mean? What does the picture have to do with it? VERY frustrating and I can't say I learned anything.

Now, you may learn differently. I need some better context on what words in that sentence are the verb, which is the noun, which word is the subject, or I'll never be able to speak it (unless its some Rosetta phrase I've learned exactly).
