The Picis Perioperative Dashboard is a Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) tool designed to to assist hospital surgical departments in the daunting task of logistical management by providing a real-time, easy-to-read snapshot measuring case delays, quality improvement compliance, patient throughput and a range of key indicators.

The term “perioperative” refers to the time period surrounding a patient's surgical procedure and usually relates to the three phases of surgery preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative. Hospital perioperative departments are responsible for managing the various phases of the patient’s surgery including ward admission, anesthesia, surgery, recovery, etc.

With real-time actionable business and clinical intelligence, the Perioperative Dashboard allows administrators and clinicians can anticipate consequences and make immediate, informed decisions to increase efficiency, ensure quality compliance and improve billing readiness. Surgical departments face logistical challenges each day, including late case starts, delays, add-on cases, cancellations and other unanticipated events that make it difficult to align clinician and patient schedules with available operating rooms and resources. Perioperative Dashboard assist hospitals by improving productivity, clinician and patient satisfaction, and hospital finances as operating rooms are a major source of hospital revenue and cost consumption.

The Dashboard takes the form of an easy-to-read web page display with gauges, bar graphs and other visual indicators highlighting issues that will impact daily surgical activities. This enables managers to anticipate repercussions of problems as they arise and more easily respond to delays and bottlenecks, helping to increase utilization rates and keep procedures on schedule.

The customizable dashboard can be displayed on users’ PCs, flat screens around the department and other displays, improving communication by providing the entire perioperative department with real-time metrics on the financial and quality aspects of these key care areas, while fitting into an organization’s enterprise strategy for business intelligence.

The first release of Picis Perioperative Dashboard includes a library of 17 indicators that were developed with input from a panel of nursing directors, anesthesiologists, operating room managers, surgeons and IT professionals. In addition, five fully customizable indicators allow hospitals to construct indicators that meet the specific needs of their department or role.
