I am not as convinced as you are that the Piaggio Marketing Department is making a mistake by naming their vehicle the MP3.

When your company name is as unique/cool/lyrical as Piaggio you dont really have to have a unique name for you product in order to be found high in the SEO rankings and your allowed a lot of leeway in your branding strategy for your product names. This trike will be called the Piaggio MP3 by almost everyone... and the next one will be the mp4... mp5 etc. When spoken out loud it kinda has a nice ring to my ear.

If their company was called something dumb like isprockesZ or something, then the product name would need a much more unique name.

If they are destined to be the next sliced bread, they may even get some buzz by co-opting the good will of the term MP3. I know i wont be forgetting it.
