October 28, 2008 PepperBall Technologies has released a 100-lumen flashlight that doubles as a semi-automatic PepperBall launcher. The 2.2-pound FlashLauncher can fire up to five projectiles that, in addition to stinging like hell, release a hot pepper powder designed to subdue any assailant.

Sliding the safety forward activates the laser targeting on the FlashLauncher, which allows users to accurately fire within a 30-foot range. The pellets are launched by compressed CO2, and a gauge on the side of the torch indicates how much juice it has left. PepperBall Technologies also offers a smaller, 12-foot range PAVA sprayer called the HotShot.

This could be useful for home defense. What is the ammo type/ supplier? What is the cost per shot? shelf life of ammo?
I will shoot intruders, but a non-lethal back-up would not be a bad idea.
