The world's biggest expo for mobile tech, GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, has just opened its doors and Lenovo has honored the occasion with a new refined and enhanced version of last year's 10-inch Yoga tablet. The hold, tilt or stand Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ brings a much-improved high resolution display panel, a faster processor and more RAM, while still managing the same reported 18-hour per charge battery life.
The 10 HD+ features a 10.1-inch, 1920 x 1200 resolution Smart Display with 178 degree viewing angles and support for up to 10 simultaneous touch points. There's a 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor at its heart, with support from 2 GB of LPDDR2 system memory and 16 or 32 GB of eMMC solid state storage with microSD expansion. It runs Android 4.3 and comes pre-loaded with Lenovo's suite of DOit apps to help people simplify their digital lives.
The new apps cater for direct sharing (no internet connection required) of photos, videos, documents and so on between up to five devices at speeds claimed to be 40 times faster than doing so over Bluetooth. There's a security feature that protects against malware and viruses, and locks down personal information in the event of loss or theft, a data backup assistant for saving contacts, SMS messages and logs to the cloud, and a nifty-looking camera app with built-in filters and effects, and in-app editing.
That impressive up time comes courtesy of a 9000 mAh cylindrical Li-ion battery running all the way down one edge, which gives the user something to grip when in tablet mode. Lenovo says that the flip-out stand has also been improved, allowing the tablet to stand upright at angles between 30 and 80 degrees. 3G and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi varieties will be released, though the former won't be available in the US, and there's Bluetooth 4.0 technology.
Completing the specs are a micro-USB port, an 8 MP rear-facing snapper and a 1.6 MB webcam to the front supported by a noise-reduction microphone, and Dolby audio output via front-facing stereo speakers.
The Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ is due for release in April for a starting price of US$349.
