Lenovo's Miix multi-mode tablet is about to be joined by a baby brother. The new Miix2 is the company's first 8-inch tablet, and features a latest generation Intel quad-core processor, runs Windows 8.1 and is available with an optional stylus.

The Miix2 packs one of Intel's new Bay Trail-T (Z3000 Series) quad-core Atom processors, with integrated Intel HD graphics and Clear Video HD technology for smooth video playback performance. It has an 8-inch, 800 x 1200 resolution IPS display that supports 10 simultaneous touch points.

The 5.18 x 8.48 x 0.32 in (13.2 x 21.5 x 0.8 cm), 0.77 lb (349 g) tablet features 2 GB of LP-DDR3 memory, and up to 128 GB of eMMC solid state storage (with microSD expansion), though US customers will have to make do with either 32 or 64 GB.

There's a 2 megapixel webcam to the front for high quality video chat, and a 5 MP rear camera for snaps. Completing the known specs are Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and 3G-GPS3 connectivity (though the latter won't be available everywhere), and an as yet unspecified battery that's claimed to offer up to 7 hours of use between charges.

The Lenovo Miix2 will be available later this month at US$299 for the 32 GB model, and $349 for the 64 GB version. You can also opt to add $20 to each price tag for a protective cover with a digitizer pen.

Update 10/18/13: Lenovo has confirmed a few more specs. The Intel processor is a Z3740 running at 1.8 GHz, the battery is a 4730 mAh single cell unit, and 3G connectivity will not be included in US models.

Those pictures are terrible, all of them have glare off of the screen and what is worse it is probably Photophoped glare. What was the idea lets advertise that the screen on our tablet is so glossy you can't use any where but a dark room? Stupid.

I have yet to see a win8 device under 10 inch with FHD, why is that?

It would be interesting to work with a small device which has adult OS.

What is the point of having a great screen if you can't see it in normal office, home, or outdoor conditions?
TV's also had glare screen until 2 or 3 years ago when they all changed to non-glare screens due to wide-spread complaints about glare.
You can only see a glare screen if you are in a dark room with no windows, like that is normal? Maybe that's normal for the guys who design these things.
