October 1, 2008 LaCie's new 4big Quadra is a four-bay, hot-swappable RAID data back-up solution that offers burst transfer rates of 200-230MB/s and up to 6TB (6000GB) capacity as a compact stand-alone unit - which can be scaled up to 24TB by linking four units together - along with the promise of energy efficient and quiet operation.

The Neil Poulton designed 4big includes eSATA, Firewire 400/800, and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity and caters for high speed applications like photo processing, audio/video projects, pre-press and HD post-production.

“The LaCie 4big Quadra definitely sets a new standard in RAID Technology for creative professionals and small sever backups,” said to Arnaud Prézelin, LaCie Product manager for Creative Pro solutions. “For instance, the 4big Quadra enables digital content creators to work on multiple HD video streams or to manage RAW photos libraries with live effects.”

The 4big supports seven RAID modes including RAID 0 and RAID 5 for optimal performance and data protection and LaCie claims that it saves up to 30-80 percent more energy is almost 50 percent quieter than traditional RAID towers. The unit is also compatible with Time Machine™ and ships with Genie Backup Manager Pro™ and Intego Backup Manager Pro™ for customizable backup and computer recovery.

Available from this month, pricing for the LaCie 4big Quadra starts at USD$849 for the 2TB version and the 6TB model costs $1749.
