HD DVD, Blu-ray bargains at Amazon

Amazon has launched a massive HD DVD sale, knocking 50% off the price of 103 HD DVDs from Universal Studios, including The Breakfast Club, King Kong, Pitch Black, Dawn of the Dead, and the cult classic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Those in the Blu-ray camp won't quite get 50% off, but the BBC series Planet Earth is available for $59.95 - a steal for ten hours of HD footage that's so gorgeous it could justify an expensive HDTV purchase to even the most cynical significant other.

Also of note are the Resident Evil Trilogy for $48.99 and the Blade Runner Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition for $27.95.

Whoever said the format wars wouldn't end up benefiting the consumer?
