Article Summary
August 22, 2006 In 2001, Yamile Cendales Jackson gave birth to son Zachary 12 weeks prematurely. At birth, Zachary weighed 1 lb 15 oz (906 gr). During Zachary's five long months in the hospital he survived a flood and evacuation, various surgeries, and a lot of hurt. His mother, a PhD in industrial engineering majoring in ergonomics and human factors engineering, noticed that nurses rolled towels, used stuffed animals and improvised other items to provide him with boundaries, comfort, a sense of security and support. From those experiences, the Zaky was born. Zakeez was created to keep a promise Yamile made to God: “If you let me go home with Zachary, I’ll help babies.”
