Pantech Wireless, the U.S. based subsidiary of South Korea’s Pantech Group and Disney Mobile today jointly announced plans for the DM-P100, the first wireless handset in the Disney Mobile portfolio. At the CTIA Wireless 2006 trade show in Las Vegas, the two companies said the new mobile phone was scheduled to hit the U.S. market with the launch of Disney Mobile this summer. Disney Mobile is the first comprehensive mobile service built specifically for families. It will include custom handsets, extensive entertainment content, and an innovative package of features and applications that meet the unique communication needs of families.

Disney Mobile is the first national wireless phone service built to meet the unique communication needs of today's family. Launching summer 2006, Disney Mobile will provide wireless voice and data services and custom handsets. In addition, Disney Mobile will offer a package of features and applications tailored to meet the unique communication needs of families. The Family CenterTM, a suite of four exclusive services, will enable parents to directly manage their family’s wireless experience, including controlling when and how often kids use their phone; locating kids’ handsets using GPS technology; protecting their kids from unwanted calls and messages and sending priority text messages to all Disney Mobile family plan members simultaneously. Disney Mobile will offer an array of content that parents trust and kids enjoy drawn from the rich entertainment heritage of Disney.

The DM-P100, designed exclusively for Disney by Pantech, will be a stylish camera handset with advanced functionality built around a unique user interface. George Grobar, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Mobile, said: “Disney Mobile was designed to be a mobile phone service kids and parents can agree on and working with Pantech on our launch handset is a big part of realizing this vision. The handset is attractive to all members of the family and its camera phone and other capabilities are important for kids. Working with Pantech, we were able to customize the handset and its UI to simplify and integrate our core family applications.” Sung Kyu Lee, president & CEO, Pantech Wireless, Inc., said: “We have reached this agreement with Disney due to Pantech’s capacity to produce ground-breaking handset designs and state-of-the art technologies for the U.S. market. We believe that the roll out of the DM-P100, along with our association with one of America’s most beloved brands, will significantly help elevate the Pantech brand in the U.S”.

The DM-P100 handset features a color display, external caller ID, a built in camera with embedded flash, speakerphone features, text and picture messaging, and voice activated dialing. Already a leader in the wireless sector in Korea and the seventh largest handset manufacturer in the world, a key element of Pantech’s 2006 global strategy is the development of its brand presence in the U.S. through increased supplier deals with carriers via its subsidiary, Pantech Wireless, Inc.
