New exotic: the Studio Torino RK Spyder

The RK Spyder is a new and very exotic sportcar created by Alfredo Stola's StudioTorino in conjunction with well known Porsche specialist Alois Ruf. Unlike many exotics which focus entirely on performance, the RK Spyder is powerful, but not excessively so, with 420 bhp (305 kW), but very high torque throughout the rev range and a relatively modest top speed of just 285 km/h. It is however, “tailored to the pilot and co-pilot like an haute-couture dress”, “understated and essential”, “never brash” and yet “aggressive in a minimalist manner.” StudioTorinoaims to develop and create unique, limited series sports automobiles using sophisticated engineering and meticulous handcrafted bodywork in the finest Turin tradition.

Stola has a long career in creating fine automobiles, coming from a family of automotive craftsmen and the creation of StudioTorino is the continuation of a family tradition.

“With this venture, I want to promote the production of handcrafted off-sets combined with prestigious high performance mechanics and to share with friends and clients my passion for automobiles,” says Stola.

“The RK Spyder is the first example of what I mean by fine sports cars. It will be produced in a limited number of not over 49 specimens. Details and mechanics will be personalized as requested by the client. This first limited edition will be preceded by two prototypes numbered Prototype 1/2 and Prototype 2/2.

“This first project presented by StudioTorino has been created in collaboration with Alois Ruf who has developed the mechanical, performance and certification aspects. For this reason, the RK Spyder carries the StudioTorino name plate on the sides and the Ruf logo on the motor and on the hood.

“Since the beginning of the project, I have had the pilot and his driving pleasure in mind – his desire to live in symbiosis with the world around him. Driving pleasure must take into consideration factors like road condition, air, sun, and fear of driving in harsh weather conditions on curvy and slippery roads. Beyond being a passion, sport is a challenge. It is to measure up to oneself; it is pure pleasure. Speed is relative –pleasure is intimate and personal.

“Like the first modern sports cars of the 1950’s, the RK Spyder crafted by StudioTorino is topless. Naturally, it is a roadster.

“Leading industry partners and service providers have designed, manufactured and provided for the first time, purposely and for this off-set model only, technologically advanced components such as alloy wheels, tires, braking systems, paints, luxury leather interiors and carbon-fiber seats. The companies which have worked with us to create this car as Bilstein, Brembo, Fulda, Huntsman, Model Resine, Poltrona Frau, Ppg, Toora , Banca Intesa, and Zurich.

“The first two models, P 1/2 and P 2/2 have been personalized for Alois and myself. All successive models will be designed according to the personality, taste and needs of those friends and clients who share our same passion for exclusive objects (call them “toys” if you like!) that are refined, handcrafted and of extraordinary quality.
