Article Summary
30 March, 2005 Toshiba today announced a breakthrough in lithium-ion batteries that makes long recharge times a thing of the past. The new battery can recharge 80% of a battery's energy capacity in only one minute, approximately 60 times faster than the typical lithium-ion batteries in wide use today, and a full recharge takes just a few more minutes. The battery’s performance-boosting improvements in energy density and subsequent advantages in size and weight make it perfectly suited for hybrid electric vehicles and when it reaches market next year, the automotive sector is expected to be the first to utilise it.
