The inevitable PC invasion of the lounge room began in earnest when the world's largest software manufacturer (Microsoft) began rolling out its updated multimedia-oriented operating system (OS), Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 in ealy October. Most significantly, the new system supports multiple TV tuners, (so you can watch one channel and record another), and the facility to schedule TV recording via the Internet.

Designed for use in the lounge room, this landmark product will be a major factor in changing the way people think about and use computers.

Acer, Hewlett-Packard, Optima, and Toshiba joined Microsoft in launching their computers using the new system.

The Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is a digital entertainment centre that connects to either a computer monitor or television and the Internet, and offers easy access to photos, music, video and both live and recorded TV. It's possible to play, record and pause live television, watch (and control) DVDs, listen to and store music, share digital photos and movies and access computer games and music on demand.

"Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is a whole new way for people to experience home entertainment when and how they want. People no longer need a separate stereo, video recorder, DVD player and computer - the one device can do it all for you using a single remote control. This technology makes the digital revolution a reality for everyone," said Danny Beck, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Windows Desktop, Microsoft Australia.

"People want more out of their Personal Computer (PC). Digital photography, digital music and other lifestyle-driven activities continue to grow in popularity and Windows XP Media Center Edition meets this growing demand and makes it easier for all Australians to get the most from digital home entertainment."
