We’ve seen electric full-suspension mountain bikes before, and we’ve also seen electric trekking bikes. Flyer’s new TX-Series, however, is something you don’t come across too often – an electric full-suspension trekking bike. Gizmag checked it out at Eurobike.

Described by Swiss parent company Biketec as an "SUV e-bike," the TX features a 36-volt 250-watt Bosch mid-drive motor. It’s powered by a down-tube-mounted 11.2-Ah 400-Wh Bosch battery, providing pedal assistance up to a maximum speed of 25 km/h (16 mph).

A bar-mounted push-button controller allows riders to select the amount of assistance provided, while an LCD module lets them view stats such as speed and battery charge level. There’s currently no word on range or charging time.

Depending on the package chosen, the TX is also equipped with a Shimano SLX or XT 10-speed drivetrain, or an 11-speed Shimano Alfine hub transmission, or a 14-speed Rohloff hub transmission. Stopping is handled by Shimano Alfine, SLX or XT hydraulic disc brakes, while SR Suntour is responsible for the front suspension and Rock Shox for the rear – a Suntour suspension seat post is an optional extra.

Abus frame and battery locks are also included, as is a rear rack and a lighting system.

The Flyer TX-Series is available in two versions – one aimed at road riding, and the other suited for going a bit more off-road – with prices starting at €4,299 (about US$4,870).

An actually useful bike. Fenders! Rack! Even a stand! Love it. What a nice contrast to all the other sleek & useless sunny-day-rides.

A rear rack on an unsprung suspension member. LOL, trash

For $5K it better have an electric motor on standby and a dedicated bike phone, electronic theft protection, etc., etc!
