A lack of power wouldn't be a criticism you'd level at the Mercedes-AMG range, but as per usual, Brabus has seen room for improvement. The latest vehicle to come in for the company's tuning treatment is the new AMG GT S, which has been given an extra 90 hp (66 kW) and a raft of sinister carbon fiber styling tweaks.

The rationale behind Brabus' changes is simple: "you can never have enough power, especially in a sports car." With this in mind, Brabus' engineers have developed a plug-and-play control module for the GT S that bumps peak power up to 600 hp (441 kW) at 6,400 rpm, with peak torque pegged at 553 lb-ft 750 (Nm).

These gains come from seemingly small tweaks such as new mapping for the fuel injection and ignition, as well as a small increase in boost pressure.

Small though they may seem, Brabus' changes to the GT S' twin-turbo V8 are enough to send the car from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds on the way to a top speed of 201 mph (325 km/h), which is 11 mph (15 km/h) faster than the standard car.

There have been some styling changes to the GT S, most of which are carbon fiber in nature. At the front of the car, wider air intakes and an upgraded splitter make for a more aggressive face and reduces lift on the front axle, while the vents on the side of the car light up with the Brabus logo in blue when you approach. Down back, Brabus' new rear diffuser features more space for the new titanium exhaust system, as well as creating extra stability at high speeds.

On a purely aesthetic level, the GT S sits on monoblock lightweight wheels wrapped in 275/30R20 tires up front and 305/25R21 tires down back. The car also sits 0.6 in (15 mm) lower on sports springs designed to work in tandem with the new wide tires and big wheels.

On the inside, Brabus' designers have fitted the car out with carbon kick plates embedded with a backlit logo, while a special range of trim finishes are available for those who really want to customise their AMG.

One of the big advantages of choosing a Brabus-tuned Mercedes over cars from other tuning houses is the warranty. Even though the GT S 600 is producing more power and running more boost than the standard AMG motor, buyers still get a three year warranty.

The GT S 600 will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where Gizmag will be on the ground covering the action, so stay "tuned."
