Whether it be high-tech automation or just clever design, I love gadgets that make life in the kitchen easier. So you’ll understand why I’m enamored with the Bowlboard – it’s a clever take on the chopping board which will have you preparing food like a real professional in no time.

Designed by an Australian product designer, Kain Lucas, the Bowlboard was created specifically for food preparation. It features four inlaid bowls that are used to separate ingredients and lift out of the board when you’re ready to add ingredients to the dish. The bowls sit flush to the surface of the board so you can add food to them with a simple scrape of the knife. No mess, no fuss.

Much like the Transfer chopping board, it’s the simplicity of the US$69 Bowlboard that makes it such a clever kitchen gadget.

Some of the biggest failures in design have resulted from merely over-thinking something. This does indeed show that simple designs can be pure genius. The only issue would be thickness and storage issues.

Seventy dollars for a cutting board!? That\'s just nuts. I made my butcher-block board, and you could too!

An improvement would be to do away with the tiny bowls. Just turn cut-outs into trap doors (either quick release catches, aperture traps or slide outs).
In this way the condiments can just be dropped from the board and into the pan straightaway. Also, no need to wash additional stuff.
An extra \'condi-board\' can be attached to the bottom to give a total of eight cut-outs; - for the adventurous cook. :-)

The brilliance IS the tiny bowls in the cut outs. They are fitted to make it easy to slide the food into them without spilling through cracks or over the edge. More complicated \'doors\' without the bowls makes it far less useful. However, the price is a little to much and I suspect just an \'MSPR\' so the boutique expensive stores can sell it at that price while the rest will sell it for $40 or less. I am tempted to just take an old board I have and drill it to exactly match a couple of low bowls or plates. Good simple elegant idea though.
