Miami-based Blu Products has unleashed a new 5.5-inch display smartphone that's reported to include market-leading processing, memory, display and camera tech. The Life Pure XL is built around Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 mobile processor, which gets support from up to 3 GB of RAM, and features a 16 MP rear-facing camera with a compact camera-like image sensor and an AF selfie snapper to the front.

Blu says that the 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor with Adreno 330 GPU beating within the curved polycarbonate unibody case allows the Life Pure XL to significantly outperform its predecessor, the Life Pure, boasting AnTuTu and Vellamo benchmark scores of 35,000 and 1,200 respectively. The 32 GB model comes with 3 GB of DDR3 RAM, while the 16 GB version will come with 2 GB of system memory.

The 150.6 x 75 x 9.5 mm (5.93 x 2.95 x 0.37 in), 128 g (4.5 oz) XL also packs a 5.5-inch 1080p LTPS display at 401 pixels per inch that's topped by Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 with Native Damage Resistance for top notch protection. Blu has thrown in DTS surround sound technology for good measure, and three microphone noise-cancellation.

The 16 megapixel shooter with a customized Largan M8 lens at the rear features a 1/2.3 inch sensor and delivers a pixel size of 1.34 microns. Enhanced photography features like HDR, panorama, auto scene modes and voice-activated shutter release have also been included, and the smartphone is capable of recording Full HD video at 30 frames per second. There's an 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash to the front, with a pixel size of 1.4 microns.

What devices like this and the OnePlus One or even the Nexus show is that if you are paying $600+ for a phone, you are very much over paying for nothing.
