Blaupunkt has announced its first foray into the automotive rear-view camera arena with a tiny unit designed for fast mounting on most vehicles and simple connection to a wide variety of in-car video and navigation display devices.

Unveiled at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show, the color camera displays a wide 138-degree viewing angle for an clear view of obstacles and traffic behind the car and its robust design is highly resistant to water and temperature fluctuations . The package includes both 2 meter (6.5 ft.) and 8 meter (25.25 ft.) cables, each with a 3.5mm jack at the end for simple connection to a wide variety of display and navigation systems.

When used with select Blaupunkt TravelPilot portable navigation devices, the rear camera view is displayed automatically when the car is shifted into reverse.

The camera will be available in the first quarter of 2008 but no pricing details have yet been released.
