The DeltaWing Project - half the power, half the weight, twice the aerodynamic efficiency

Gizmag is essentially about new thought - new and better ways of doing things. Hence the DeltaWing Project which we detailed previously, is of greater fascination than most current auto racing projects because the 1.6-liter Nissan DIG-T turbo-powered car is hugely innovative. Racetrack testing is well underway and the car recently had its first serious outing in the wet at the U.K.'s Snetterton circuit.  Read More

The thing to remember when looking at these images is that it HAS NOT BEEN RAINING.

Thailand's Songkran Festival has been going for hundreds of years. It is a Buddhist festival and part of the New Year celebrations, but as the Buddhist calendar has given way to the Gregorian calendar of the rest of the world, the most prominent aspect has become the throwing of water. For three days each year (April 13, 14 & 15), the country engages in one giant water-fight. If your inner child needs some nurturing, this is the place to get it.  Read More

Mercedes Benz won its first Formula One Grand Prix for 57 years in China today, completing the successful comeback many thought it could not achieve. The Jaguar F-type

In an extraordinary move, Jaguar has announced it will produce an all-new sports car to go on sale in mid-2013, named the F-Type. Announced but not exhibited at the New York International Auto Show, Jaguar has released images of the vehicle with camouflage paint. Given the iconic status of its previously letter-designated sports cars (the C-type, D-type and E-type), the Jaguar F-type can be reasonably expected to be spectacularly good. Here's what we know so far:  Read More

The Sailing GPS

One of the problems of using GPS chartplotters on a sailboat is that it is extremely difficult to calculate accurate arrival times given the amount of tacking often involved. Now there's a purpose-built Sailing GPS that not only accounts for the tacking that sailboats do, but can can tell you the optimal tacking angles and your Tacking Time to Destination (TTD).  Read More

Citroen is crowd sourcing the design of a new C1 variant through Facebook With the internet connecting not just billions of computers but billions of creative minds, the news that Citroën UK was collaborating with Facebook to "crowd-source" the design of a new C1 variant at first appeared very exciting. The reality of the situation though, is that participants "choose" the number of doors (2 or 4), the interior and exterior colors and ... just six multiple choice options to configure the "C1 Connexion".  Read More

The Yamaha TTX Adventure scooter

Yamaha Thailand showed an interesting concept bike in Bangkok earlier this week. It's a scooter, but it has been ruggedized, given higher quality and longer travel suspension, extra luggage facility with provision for much more, and a vastly strengthened frame. Thailand's floods led to calls for a scooter with greater off-road capability, and Yamaha has delivered something that just might catch on. Most of the world's scooter sales are in countries where unmade roads make up a significant proportion of the road network and road conditions are the speed limit. The base scooter used in the TTX Adventure is the new Yamaha TTX 115i, a scooter with a fuel injected 115cc motor with a sporting bent.  Read More

Almost every major manufacturer had something on show we haven't seen before. Great picture gallery.  Read More

The Wider 42 Motor Yacht

One of the stars of the Palm Beach International Boat Show which began today is the Italian Wider 42 footer, with Wider being both an appropriate adjective and the master brand name. The Wider works ingeniously in that you can activate mobile extensions either side of the hull, double the deck area and give the boat complete stability, all at the press of a button.  Read More
